About

My name is Yassine. I was born and raised in Tunis but have lived in many places since then including Washington D.C, Tokyo and Michigan.

Early Years

In infancy, I was always fascinated by how things work. My childhood was marked by a relentless curiosity, as I eagerly dismantled every toy and gadget, I could get my hands on, driven by an insatiable desire to uncover their secrets. This innate fascination with the mechanics of the world around me naturally evolved into a passion for software engineering and the dynamic realm of the tech industry.

Volunteering and Community service

Growing up in Tunisia, my journey was shaped by both personal challenges and historic events. In 2011, I witnessed the Jasmine Revolution firsthand, an upheaval that shook our nation to its core. The echoes of gunfire, and the uncertainty of that time are seared into my memory.I stood beside my father, distributing aid to those in desperate need. One vivid memory is visiting a cramped room where three families huddled together, finding solace in each other's company despite the turmoil outside. This experience taught me the profound strength of community and the resilience of the human spirit.

Volunteering with Go Overseas in Istanbul was a deeply fulfilling experience, focused on teaching computer science to Syrian orphans as my duties included reviewing and providing feedback on recently submitted projects, offering career advice, explaining projects, and occasionally teaching software engineering and data science topic. Overall, the experience was a reciprocal journey of growth, emphasizing the profound impact of compassion and education on lives facing adversity.

Education

I am currently pursuing my bachelor of science degree in Computer Science at Alma College in Michigan, where I have consistently placed on the Dean’s List, reflecting my strong academic foundation. My coursework focuses on computer science and software engineering, areas I am deeply passionate about.

Career

From a young age, writing software has always been of great interest to me. Computer programming seemed natural for me in a way that nothing else had at the time when I discovered it in school. This has led me to a career in technology, helping build software in the e-commerce and mapping spaces. First starting as a software engineering intern at a start-up, I worked mostly with common web development tools including Java, React and Typescript.
